From Barely Surviving to Finally Living

When Lizzy first came to Arbor Vitae Chiropractic, she felt like she was barely surviving. She rarely left her home or even her recliner and spent much of her time crying and praying for relief from her pain. Her life had become increasingly limited by seizures, syncope, severe muscle spasms and rigidity, migraines, and constantly stacking symptoms. Nearly everything could trigger an episode, leaving her afraid and feeling trapped inside a body that could not handle everyday life. After more than five years of an extensive medical journey and being diagnosed with more than a dozen diseases and disorders, Lizzy felt completely hopeless. Dr. Tom, who attends the same church as Lizzy, had witnessed her having seizures at a church picnic and learned about her complex health challenges. He encouraged her to come to Arbor Vitae and give neurologically-focused care a try.

Since beginning care, Lizzy has experienced changes that have given her something she had almost lost—hope. She has gone more than five weeks without a seizure, and multiple painful episodes have been stopped in the office before escalating into emergencies without needing her rescue medication. She is thinking and focusing more clearly and has noticed improvements in pain, circulation, muscle spasms, and stiffness. Most importantly, she is getting her life back. Lizzy is now leaving her house almost every day, attending appointments and events without collapsing, and going on walks with her husband and children. She recently walked an entire mile for the first time in nearly two years—something that once seemed impossible. “First and most importantly is I have hope again; hope that this broken body can truly heal.” Looking back at where she started, Lizzy says, “I was not living; I was barely surviving.” Today, she can confidently say, “I’m finally living!”
